How We Can Help You

We currently offer these key services:

  • We send  e-mail queries or postal queries for writers of books, articles, and screenplays to editors, publishers, agents, producers, production companies, and syndicates.  We regularly update our databases, so we are continually adding new contacts.  Currently, our databases include about 1300 editors at major and medium-sized publishers; about 900 literary agents; about 1900 film producers and production companies; about 1100 film agents and managers; about 300 syndicates; about  200 children's book editors; and about 150 agents who handle children's books.

  • We provide a guide to help you write a powerful query letter, along with a final polish before it goes out.  Or we can write your letter for you.  Suggestions on fine-tuning and polishing your letter are included as part of this service.

  • The publishers on our lists primarily include the major and medium sized publishers who have major distribution, plus some of the up-and-coming smaller publishers.  The agents on our lists are all legitimate non-fee charging agents, who have recognized credentials in the field.  Because we now obtain many of our e-mails from confidential sources and subscriptions to industry databases, we no longer sell our lists.

  • We target your queries to editors and/or agents based on your type of book.  Our database software will make the match, and we can exclude individuals or companies you have already contacted.   For example, we can target them as follows:

    • Editors and Publishers: based on about 50 different categories for non-fiction and fiction books (ie: for non-fiction, you can indicate whether it's business, self-help, biography, true crime, psychology, health, general non-fiction, etc.; for fiction, you can indicate whether it's general, commercial or literary fiction, sci-fi, romance, mystery, suspense, etc.)

    • Agents: besides distinguishing between agents who handle nonfiction and fiction, we can select out agents based on these categories:

      • Agents who handle screen rights and screenplays

      • Agents for children's books

      • Agents based on their size, from new agents to agents with 10+, 25+, 50+, or more clients.

      • Agents based on location, so you can specify particular states or regions, such as New York or California agents, or  East Coast or West Coast agents.

      • Agents who are AAR members.

  • If you are doing an e-query, we send it out for you and give you a report which includes the name of each contact and company queried.  Generally, these queries go out to about 300-400 editors and agents, depending on your type of project.  The film industry queries go out to almost all our contacts, with some targeting based on the type of project -- feature, TV special, TV series, reality show, documentary, etc.

  • If you are doing a postal query, we create a file of letters and envelopes or labels for you which are ready to mail.  They can be set up with your own letterhead or so you can print out on your own stationery.

  • We can do an e-mail or postal query for you to Syndicates and Newswire Services, and we work with a partner who can send out e-mail queries to feature and lifestyle newspaper editors at 1000 or more newspapers.

  • We can provide you with e-mail and postal queries to producers, production companies, and agents for screenplay writers.  Learn more here, or go to our site for screenplay writers at www.screenplaywritersconnection.com.

  • We can provide you with  your own e-mail on our new dedicated mail server, so you can send out queries under a private e-mail and have them forwarded to your own e-mail account.

  • We have work with a mailing service, so we can send out your proposal or manuscript if you need help doing this.  Ideal for clients outside of the U.S. who want to mail materials to U.S. publishers or agents.  Or if you're too busy to do your own mailings, our associate can do it for you.

  • We have a agent assessment and locator service in which we can help you assess the response of agents to a query and prioritize who to contact first.  You get a report for each agent which tells you the agent's size, location, whether an AAR member, and the number of deals of different sizes since July 2003.  Or use this service to contact particular agents.

  • We have a publisher assessment and locator service which will help you learn more about the publishers interested in your book and choose which publishers to work with.  Or use this service to contact particular editors.

  • Here's a more detailed description of how the service works.
