Screenplay Proposal E-Mail Query Template
Start with a compelling subject line and keep your query short and to the point -- ideally around 200-300 words.
Begin with a logline of about 50-60 words, then include a brief introduction to yourself, emphasizing any credentials that are most relevant to your script.
Just fill in the details as indicated, though put the letter in your own words. Also, don't use bold type, underlines, or italics, since your query will
go out as a text message, which is most likely to be received and read. Use CAPS for emphasis instead.
Subject Line: (HIGHLIGHT THE GENRE AND MAIN POINT OF YOUR SCRIPT. VERY IMPORTANT; THIS IS WHAT WILL GET THE CONTACT TO OPEN YOUR E-MAIL).

Here's a sample of a letter I might send, using a logline from one of my scripts that was optioned by a producer.
SUBJECT LINE: Introducing RICH AND DEAD: a cop/action/mystery thriller; based on a true story for your consideration
Here's a new script for your consideration: After a homicide secretary's wealthy friend, seeking divorce, becomes ill, the secretary suspects the husband of poisoning her. After her friend's death, with help from her boyfriend and homicide detective, she prevents a cremation and foils efforts to dispose of the body, leading to a chase through an abandoned shipyard and capture of two gunman and the husband.
I have written a dozen scripts, one which is going into production next year with an independent film company, and have published over 35 books with major publishers.
In writing RICH AND DEAD, I have drawn on my experience in working with the Oakland police for five years, and I could assist in making arrangements to obtain the help of the police, other city officials, and the Oakland film commission if the film is shot here in Oakland. I spent a year doing a report on homicide patterns for the Oakland Police Department and received a Certificate in the Administration of Justice from Merritt College in Oakland. I have also received national media exposure for my books, including an appearance on Oprah.
I would be glad to come to Los Angeles to assist with further development. I can send you a copy of the synopsis or the full script in an e-mail attachment in Word, text, or Scriptware formats or by mail. I'll look forward to hearing from you and discussing this project further.
Sincerely,
Gini Graham Scott, Ph.D.
